I realize that the children of today are claiming their independence a little earlier than they did when I was in school. However, parents are really going out of their way to buy their children clothes that don't fit. Boys are walking around with pants around or below their asses. Let me come back to this line of thought later.
Sagging of the pants is fad among young men and has been for a couple of years. Like a roach, it doesn't seem to want to go away. I submit that if the parents yanked those pants up around their neck and told their children to wear a belt, then maybe our young men wouldn't walk around looking like ducks, just so they can keep their pants up. Sagging of the pants came from prison, by the way. It was meant to be a sign to other inmates that an individual was available, or to put it more frank, wanted anal sex and they were providing easy access. Next time your young men walk out of the house with their pants below their ass, ask them what message are they sending.
I guess by now you get my message on the men. So back to my original statement. The boys are out with clothes that are way too big. They don't wear any belts. I even saw a young man, not to far out of elementary school, wearing gold false "fronts" as one would call them. Really mom and dad? Is this the way you want to raise your child? So what message are we sending with the girls? I have seen just about everything when it comes to our teen to pre-teen girls. Shorts that show their ass, tops that don't cover what they don't have, and just about everything you can see on a music video today. WTF parents? This is acceptable to you? Why do you even buy this line of clothes for your kids? It's like you are asking for teenaged pregnancy and juvenille delinquency?
Here's a thought on all of this. Parents, re-engage yourself back into the lives of your childrens lives. Find out what they did today by simply talking to them. Find a happy medium in their clothing choices by using a little bit of reality. That reality should be there is at least 1 sexual predator in the vacinity of your neighborhood and you need to understand that they do not need another reason to target your child. The reality is that children are becoming sexually active earlier and earlier. I watched a news report about an eleven years old child having a baby....and dying from it. The doctor's explaination was she simply wasn't developed enough to handle it.
Common sense choices are all you need to make. Those kids are under your roof. Until they move out on their own, they are your responsibility and they need to follow your rules. Make their clothing choice one of those rules.
what are your thoughts about the teenage boys that are sporting these skinny jeans? my oldest says that at his school there are alot of guys that are wearing too tight shirts and even tighter jeans....i don't understand any of it at all cause my kids wear clothes that fit them!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, which is the lesser of two evils? Too loose and can see their fruit of the loom, or so tight you can tell what religion they are? All I know is if son ever comes home with his pants around his knees, he will be wearing them up around his eyes within seconds.
