President Obama spoke this morning to the parliament of India. His speech was full of peace and prosperity. He referred to Ghandi on several occasions. Obama spoke of how India was the largest democracy while the US was the oldest. His speech was very informative. He gave the listeners the background of India and their relationship with the US. He gave non-specific solutions to the global problems we face. He informed us that India will have a permanent seat on the UN security council.
However, I am still up in arms as to why he would mention our arms negotiations with Russia. I am still up in arms about why Obama referred to Ghandi almost as much as he referred to the US, when India has made it clear that India is going away from the ideas of Ghandi, more specifically that going away from independent villages and townships are not the steps towards a more prosperous country. India is exploding into technology and cooperative townships and cities. While Ghandi was a great man and a peaceful figure, his ideals would have kept India behind in the times. That is the farthest from the reality because India came out of Ghandi's ideals bor their society and they are booming with success. They are one of the next super powers. "Revolution" is not what is happening there, as our president said. It is India coming into their own era and surpassing some societies of other countries. While forming allies can be mistaken for "globalism", India still needs to look out for their own economic interests just as we need to also. Globalism is not the answer.
Obama did a good job during his speech but, let's not sell off our country just yet.
